Since 1770, the College of Charleston has played a critical and vital role in the city, state, nation, and the world. Several of the College’s founders played key roles in the nation’s independence and the creation of the new republic. Edward Rutledge, Arthur Middleton, and Thomas Heyward were signers of the Declaration of Independence, and John Rutledge, Charles Pinckney, and Charles Cotesworth Pinckney were framers of the U.S. Constitution.
Born out of the Age of Enlightenment and forged in an era of revolutionary awakening, the College of Charleston was founded in 1770. For 250 years, the College has grown, developed and evolved. It has been through exciting and complex times defined by starts and stops; defeats and victories; and challenges and achievements.
The College’s year-long celebration will reflect on the past, acknowledge the present and boldly imagine its impact on making the world a better place. Join us in what we are sure will be a spectacular day, on a spectacular golf course, for a spectacular celebration of this special milestone.
